Light Fingers Stakes, Surround Stakes options for exciting Plaintiff

Undefeated filly Plaintiff continues to reward a patient approach from trainer Peter Snowden, who believes the foundation laid this preparation can carry her through both the Sydney autumn and Queensland winter carnivals.

The daughter of Zoustar made it three from three when she unleashed a powerful finishing burst to land the Macquarie St Social Handicap (1300m) at Randwick on Saturday.

While the early autumn features such as the Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and the Surround Stakes (1400m) have been considered, Snowden said those races will arrive too soon for the progressive three-year-old.

“The Surround was on the radar but it’s going to come a bit too early,” Snowden said.

“It’s more important to me to teach her how to be a racehorse than going in there half-hearted.

“The groundwork is done now. She is educated.

“We know her ability, we know she can race from the front or the back, so she is very adaptable, and she’s got a great turn of foot. I’m sure there are good things ahead for her.”

Snowden said Plaintiff will now enjoy a short break before the stable maps out a suitable target later in the Sydney carnival, with an eye toward travelling north later in the year.

He believes the filly’s steady progression through the grades highlights her quality and adaptability.

“I’m sure she will make her mark here and probably go to Brisbane later on for the winter carnival and find a decent race up there,” Snowden said.

“She’s had three starts and she’s just kept getting better with each one.

“She’s won a midweek maiden, a Saturday race her next start and another Saturday race here.

“You don’t often see that unless they’re way above average and she has earned a good rest now. It won’t be long, three or four weeks, but I can’t wait for her to come back in.”

After settling closer to the speed in her earlier wins, Plaintiff showed a new dimension by coming from behind to defeat Shady Road ($9) by a neck, with Big Papa ($6) another half-length away in third.

Future targets for Plaintiff can be explored by punters via the Australian betting sites list.
