Veterinary inspections of European galloper Gold Trip have shown the entire to be lame since his arrival in Melbourne for the Spring Carnival.

European Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup hopeful Gold Trip has been showing signs of lameness since his arrival in Melbourne.

Now in the care of Ciaron Maher & David Eustace , Gold Trip arrived in Melbourne on Saturday night to prepare for the Cox Plate at The Valley on October 23 and the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 2.

Gold Trip and fellow traveller State Of Rest, trained by Joseph O’Brien, underwent post arrival examinations by a panel of three veterinarians on Sunday morning with Gold Trip showing signs of lameness which required further examinations.

After light exercise on Monday under saddle, Gold Trip was examined by the Maher and Eustace stable’s own vet, who reported the entire was still showing signs of lameness.

A further examination on Tuesday, again following light exercise under saddle, by a panel of three vets, including two from Racing Victoria and one independent vet, Gold Trip was found to be lame in his right hind leg and right foreleg.

RV Veterinary Services will continue to work with the Maher-Eustace stable and their private vet to monitor the horse’s condition.

Gold Trip underwent diagnostic imaging prior to travelling to Australia, however national quarantine protocols mean the horse is unable to depart the quarantine centre at Werribee to undergo advanced diagnostic imaging for comparative purposes until he completes two weeks post arrival quarantine on October 9.
