The road to the Blue Diamond Stakes begins to take clearer shape on Saturday when the Blue Diamond Previews are run at Caulfield.
Ciaron Maher will saddle up Angels Fury in the Group 3 fillies’ division over 1000 metres, with the young filly having impressed in her build-up, particularly in a sharp pre-Christmas trial.
“She did it in a way that was controlled,” said Maher’s national assistant trainer Jack Turnbull.
“She’s very professional about it and seems to be very natural. Thankfully she has come through those trials nicely and had a pretty clean gallop on Monday morning so all systems go.”
Angels Fury heads into Saturday’s race as the $3.30 favourite and is currently a $7 chance in early betting for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Turnbull said the filly’s preparation has been designed to ensure she handles race day conditions with ease.
“She has had the chance to see different tracks,” Turnbull said.
“Thankfully she is very mature about it all and with everything we have done with her, she seems to be ‘push button’.
“She had a particularly solid trial that day and we think that is the sort of pressure she could handle.”
Angels Fury is the first foal from Ashra Jahre, a mare who recorded three wins from 13 starts, including a Class 2 victory at Tamworth.
Maher will also be represented by Milsons Point, who impressed on debut at Pakenham, and Invicto, a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase making his race debut.
“Milsons Point can’t do any wrong,” Turnbull said.
“He was very good that day at Pakenham while Invicto is a well-bred colt who has been improving all the time.
“He’s taken one extra jump-out for fitness and to give him a bit more graft.
“He’s a very attractive and imposing animal and we would expect them both to be competitive.”
